Example Projects

RM Education

Evident Point builds an Active Textbook-based online store and e-book reading platform for UK-based IT provider RM Education. RM Education is the UK’s largest IT provider to educational institutions. Its RM Books project aims to make it easy to bring interactive e-books into the primary school classroom to improve literacy and help get students motivated to read. RM Education has chosen Evident Point and its Active Textbook platform for making and distributing its interactive “Active Books”. Evident Point has delivered PDF and ePUB 3 viewers of “Active Books” and integrated its Active Textbook platform with RM Books’ online store. The project is ongoing. Evident Point automates the pre-processing for digital magazine publisher Zinio, based on Unbinder technology. Zinio is the world’s leading cross-platform magazine distribution service, with over 5,000 magazines available on standard web browsers, smartphones and tablets. In order to create magazines that look good on a variety of screens, Zinio employed a manual process of PDF parsing and conversion to reflowable XML format. Zinio came to Evident Point to help automate that workflow using Evident Point’s Unbinder technology.

Evident Point helped Zinio with the following:

  • Rebuilt and automated the entire digital publishing workflow, implementing automated table of contents building, text extraction, role recognition and reconstruction of text flow for conversion to reflowable XML.
  • Built a set of rules for role recognition for all magazines, starting with the Unbinder AI, and band improved the recognition process with a more powerful inference engine.
  • Built the user interface for the extraction and manual correction during pre-processing.
