Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) support for ATB
Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) is a standard for embedding third party applications into Learning Management Systems (such as Blackboard, Moodle, canvas, etc.). LTI allows a seamless connection of web-based applications that are externally hosted or different tools to platforms that present them to users. Evident Point is in the process of developing an LTI support in order to securely connect ActiveTextbook to different educational platforms in a standard way without the need to develop custom integration for each platform.
The LTI support for ActiveTextbook will allow LMS users to:
1. Embed ActiveTextBook books into their courses for easy access,
2. Connect ATB quizzes with LTI outcome services to enhance student’s learning by allowing the instructor to see students’ progress within the LMS,
3. Read assignments (i.e. read X pages),
4. Receive comments notifications via LMS.
LTI will enable the student to access all learning materials (also eBooks) from the LMS and to track reading and excercise outcome from within the LMS.
In the LMS one should be able to tell student to read from page XX to page YY and be able to give an optional comment which tells the student what these pages are about.
Would an instructor be able to connect a quiz embedded in an ActiveTextbook to an assignment/grade in the LMS – for example Canvas?
Absolutely, if ActiveTextbook is integrated with the LMS the result of the quiz would be communicated back to the LMS Gradebook.
